Does my child need lacrosse experience?

No prior lacrosse experience is necessary.  The mission of Mentor Youth Lacrosse is to grow the sport in the area by exposing boys and girls to something new and exciting.  Our coaches are dedicated to teaching children the skills they need as well as the rules of the game.  We do have teams for both developmental and competitive players so each child will be comfortable with their skills enabling them to learn and grow, reaching their full potential.

When Does the Season Begin?

All teams will begin indoor sessions at an indoor facility in February.  We will continue with weekly indoor sessions until the weather breaks and we can go outside.  Games will begin the end of March, beginning of April with the final event being the end of May.

Where do we practice/play games?

Outdoor practices will be at Memorial Middle School or Mentor High School.  Games are played at Mentor High School, one of the Mentor Middle School facilities, or other hosting facility.  The majority of the games and tournaments are played on the weekend with an occasional weekday game.

How do I register and what is the cost?

You can register your child by selecting the registration tab on our website.  The cost for the season is $225 - discounts are applied to families with multiple children.  In addition, a US Lacrosse membership is also required for all players and is $25.  You will be directed to the appropriate website during our registration process to complete this requirement.  Additional expenses may include but are not limited to individual travel expenses to games and tournaments and individual equipment.  Tournaments are one day events, with the exception of the State Tournament for the 7/8 boys team.  This is a two day event in Dublin, Ohio.

What is the schedule and how can I find it?

The game and practice schedules are posted on our website under the teams tab.  Game times and locations are updated as details are finalized.  Please be aware that changes may and will occur due to weather conditions and field availability.  It is recommended that you check the schedule and/or your email for confirmation from your coach or administrator before you leave for a game.  You may also download the calendar to your electronic device.

What equipment is required and do I need to pay for it?

We do not have equipment for rent; however, we do have several pieces that you may use temporarily until you are confident that your child wishes to play or until you purchase your own equipment.

Required equipment for boys include: helmet (may be any color; however, the typical Mentor color is gray with red accents), shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves, cleats, lacrosse stick, mouth piece, and athletic supporter.

Required equipment for girls include: lacrosse goggles, stick, mouth piece, and cleats.

Each child will receive a uniform that will be returned at the end of the season. Practice pinnies are also provided.

There are several online options for purchasing new equipment at substantial savings.  Some common websites are: lacrossemonkey.com, lacrosse.com, lacrosseunlimited.com, sportstop.com, lax.com, midwestlacrosse.com.
